Some dogs aren't so bothered about having a cuddle, they like to be stroked and have belly rubs, but they're not all about snuggling up and cuddling. My bulldog is an absolute cuddleslut. If we don't spend enough time each day cuddling him on the sofa, or wherever he wants to be at the time, he gets all bent out of shape.

He'll approach wherever we're sitting, put one or both paws on our thighs, and start to shove. He makes this funny little grunting sound at the same time, and shoves and shoves until we give in. Sometimes we let him shove for a bit, just to see how long he'll go before he gets REALLY wound up, and starts to make wookie noises in a demanding manner. It's probably not the best behaviour to encourage, but frankly, he's not doing anyone any harm.

Once he's cuddling, he makes the softest little humming noises, almost like a purr. He will sit like that with us for ages, and it's kinda hard to keep your eyes open when you've got a warm snuggly dog spread over you.

Is your dog a cuddler, or not? If so, how does he/she go about asking for one?

Homer doesn't like cuddling:( This is unfortunate because I love cuddling him:( He only lets me to stroke him and when he is in a very good mood I'm allowed to stroke his belly:p He also hates when I lift him, probably because he would like to be bigger and he doesn't like when I treat him like a little dog.

I don't think I ever had a dog that liked to cuddle. Dogs that want constant massages? Yes! Cuddling? No!

I can say that Misha will ask for a hug from time to time. She will also do it on command. If I say "give me a hug", she will rest her head on my shoulder and pause for a few seconds. Then, she'll go back to lifting her head up in the air so I'll rub her neck.

Claudine, Misha hates being picked up, too. But, she loves being on your lap. When she was younger I used to get bit all the time trying to pick her up. Now I do two things. I sit on the couch, a chair, or the bed and she'll come up to me. Or, on the ground, I hold her and ask her to jump. I don't recall teaching her this command, but lately she is responding to it. Maybe it makes her feel like she is doing it herself.

I must be very lucky then. He will actively drape himself over me, and rest his head on my chest or shoulder. In winter, he likes to snuggle into me, and rest his head on top of mine. It means he gets cuddles, and keeps me nice and warm in the process. I've never owned or met such a cuddly dog in my life. It doesn't matter how I'm sitting or laying, he will find a way to mould himself to me, and snuggle up.

I can cradle this dog like a baby, and he loves it. I don't tend to do that, because I'm conscious that he'll get used to it and want it ALL the time. He's just massively affectionate. He will very softly lick the skin on my arm, or the back of my hand when he's snuggling, and he makes this soft little noise whilst he's doing it. It's completely adorable.

I should have added a photo with the opening post, to give you an example of how he likes to cuddle. The picture I'm about to share, is when he's sitting on the lap of my partner, cuddling him at the same time as he's using his computer. It's comical and adorable all at the same time. Here he is:

This might be helpful. Homer always bites me when I'm trying to carry him. So naughty. I guess he is too proud to be carried like a little dog. Maybe if he thought it was his choice, he wouldn't be so angry:p

Our dogs slept in bed with us pretty much their whole lives. When I was younger and was sitting on the floor playing video games, our coonhound would sit right next to me the whole time and stare at me until I stopped playing games and played with her instead. Whenever it thundered, our beagle would run into my room and under my desk pressed up against my leg, trembling.

Sounds like you got a giant cat who wants cuddles. My dogs prefers lying down and having their belly rubbed.

On the other hand, there is this one dog who I really feel wants me to carry him like a little puppy.

For crying out loud, he's as heavy as ten kilos. And I'm not a big person. Imagine having to cuddle a seal or a tiny polar bear expecting they'd be whisked away like some kitten!

Our dogs usually prefer being rubbed at their stomachs than being hugged.
They loved being carried too sometimes especially when they are still puppies. :p

That's an adorable picture, but I think your dog might be a bit of an attention whore :-D, just teasing!

No, ours isn't a cuddler. He DOES insist on being in the same room, though. He hates being left alone and wants constant companionship. He doesn't necessarily want to be hugged, though.
