We have two Bernese dogs that talk to us often. They kind of low grumble but they do try to visit with us every day.

At dinner they both sit in the kitchen and talk to us as if trying to say "hey, we like that kind of food" give us some!

Really they only talk to us during dinner or when we come home from somewhere after being gone.

Do your dogs communicate with you or try to?

    Yep, he does!

He was trained early on not to bark unless there's an actual problem. But he'll whine....oh dear will he whine! He'll say little word things that are louder than a whimper but not as loud as a bark.

    Yes.
Whenever I eat too long, our dog will remind me that I need to eat faster and then feed him after. LOL

Oh yes, Homer often talks to me - especially when he wants something:p . He sometimes makes this funny sound when he wants me to lift him or when he just wants my attention. He also always lets me know when should I open the door for him.

When I had my dog, I was so sure that she spoke to us when ever she needed something or was annoyed. My dog was the type of dog that didn't understand what it meant to share or know that playing goes both ways. Whenever we would play with her and take the ball, she would get so upset. She would bark and growl in the weirdest way. it sounded as if she was cursing us out, and calling us someone other foul name. She may have been upset but she looked cute doing it--I loved it. :)

Lol, sometimes my Homer acts this way too. He can run to me a billion times to show me his toy and he clearly wants me to take it, but when I do, he instantly gets really annoyed and tries to bite me:eek: . Sometimes I just don't get him, but I always find him totally adorable:D

Of course they don't understand me when I talk to them but I do talk with them. I find that when I sing soft tunes my chow enjoys it and is more calm when I sing to her while giving her a bath and grooming her. I think it in fact calms us and our calm state in turn calms them.
