Bobbi loves it, but I not dare have window low enough so that she may get too anxious & fall out, but I leave the window down just enough so she enjoys the fresh air.

I take her with me when I go visit family, to the pet store as Pet Smart allows dogs on leashes in their stores, & I also take her to the beach. She just loves to sit on the towel & large pillow I placed in the passenger seat - so she can see up above the dashboard! She also realizes by the surroundings she sees, when we are close to my folks house, & she will start to wag her tail vigorously!

Yes, but he doesn't seem that interested in sticking his head out the window like a lot of other dogs do. He simply wants to be close to us and often lays down between the seats or on someone's lap. He might occasionally get up to look out the window, but he really doesn't seem to care. He simply is happy to be with us somewhere.

Mishka has a sixth sense  when we are taking her out. Other times she knows we are not. On the occasions we do she will get into the car at the first opportunity.
Earlier this year I bought a dog harness to restrain her in one seat in the car. She had the habit of wandering around inside the car which we thought was dangerous for the driver. Unfortunately today she''ll have to stay at home on Christmas day.
We're off to the beach kayaking and she unfortunately can't come. :(

Homer hates cars. When he sees them, he tries to attack them ( especially white cars annoy him, I have no idea why). And when he is inside the car... he is terrified and furious! He hates riding in the car almost as mach as taking a bath. This is why I don't travel with him.

    White cars?

That's really strange. I wonder why that color, of all colors (or lack of color) would trigger him to dislike them even more.

When he was a puppy a white car once drove by close to us (we were walking down the street) nothing happened but I remember Homer was scared...but I don't think it's possible he remembers it...or maybe he does? He barks at every white car he sees.

It's possible. Some dogs display fear/aggression based on things that happened to them as puppies and have to be trained in order to get over it. If he was really that terrified, he may react out of instinct now and not even realize it.

All of my dogs love riding in the car. Our oldest dog, however, has some problems getting in and out of vehicles anymore, so we have to lift him if he wants to go somewhere. Our dogs are the most excited when they think they are going to be going somewhere.

Jessi, it's very sweet your dog just wants to be with you, regardless of the venue. And I agree with your point, in that dogs, & many animals, consciously are aware of their past. In Bobbi's case, she was abused by a young boy, so she growled at my grand nephew even tho' that was the first time they met. Yes, in the same visit, Bobbi took a real liking to my grand niece, so I firmly believe our pets recall things of their past.

Argon_0 aww, poor Mishka, Christmas alone - I have been there myself. Have you previously had an opportunity to secure her to one seat & how did that go? And has Mishka ever joined in any reindeer fun ? Hmm, sorry, Christmas & all! Seriously, has she ever gone & played in the water alongside of you?

Claudine, Did your family ever have a white car when he was a puppy? If so, maybe Homer was driven to the vets & he didn't like the vets, therefore the present day connection with white cars?

Shepherd, Bobbi is the same as your dogs as she just loves to get in & go for a ride; to my folks, to the beach, & it makes a vet visit a lot easier.

To any others whose dogs don't like the ride to the vet, & shake all the way there, like a few of my dogs used to do, try this; take your dog to other places in the car; a park, to family or a friend's house, so he or she may not think all car rides end up with you parking at the vets!

No, we've never had a white car, he sees them only in the street. I think Jessi might be right, maybe he really remembers that a white car once scared him.

My dog LOVES the car because since he has sepration anxiety he knows when he is in the car with us he gets to go. He doesn't like to sit in the backseat though, he like to try to climb up into the front seat with us!

Dobby and Bandit both absolutely love cars, and Dobby has gone to the beach with my family, multiple times. Bandit is a hoot, though, because he'll actually curl up in the driver's lap and try to sleep. Dobby, on the other hand, prefers to curl up with who ever is in the backseat. Our oldest pup, Doris, used to love car rides; however, she's nearly thirteen years old and has terrible arthritis, and my mother owns a SUV, which is what we normally travel in, and it's nearly impossible for her to get into it.

Hopefully, Dobby and Bandit will be going to the beach with my family, this spring break!
