I shared a dog once named by a girlfriend Nip. When she left me, I had a chance to give the dog a real name. I was into Pink Floyd so picking the name was easy as the band had this song on a record album I played over and over.
Has anyone else got a favourite dog song or changed their dog's name?

How old was the dog when you changed it's name? Did it take to it ok?

I much prefer the name Seamus to Nip! :)

I have not experienced changing the name of our dogs.
Usually, I give names to our dogs and whatever the first name that is given, it is the permanent name.

The dog was given to us by someone who found it as a stray and could not locate the owner. We lived on a small rural property which allowed us to help out and take the dog.So the dog had a new name with Nip anyway. The name was from the classic book of Dick and Dora,Fluff and Nip from where my GF got it. The word nip was also used as a derogatory term for Japanese/Asians when I growing up. We had an Asian doctor drop in one day asking for directions. As he was leaving, Nip followed him up the drive and I called out nip nip. I new then the name was not a good choice. So sometime later Seamus came about. He was my first dog and we had loads of fun.RIP Seamus.

That makes sense. I actually don't associate "nip" with asians at all, but rather to the female body part instead....ha! I can understand renaming if it was going to cause issues, though, or would come off as offensive.
