My mother would never allow dogs inside. I think as a rebellion I have always let mine sleep in the bed It's actually come in handy in house training because I knew when they were up and trying to find a place to go (I'm a very light sleeper). I will admit when I had 4 of them things got crowded. Oh, and I dated a guy who was 6'1", 200 pounds and his 2 150+ pound Rotties slept with us. I had to get a new mattress after they were gone!

It's quite sweet but is it comfortable? I've never slept with my dog and to be honest I wouldn't like to. First of all, he is really dirty because he considers water as his biggest enemy. Also, I'd be afraid that I'll suffocate him, he is so little. Fortunately, he prefers to sleep alone on his couch.

    Lol!!

Yeah, I can imagine that being a bit crowded....and uncomfortable, ha.

My dog will sometimes sleep in bed, but he curls up out of the way and I don't even notice he's there unless I wiggle and accidentally kick him.

Funny that, I was posting about dirt coming in the house with my dog and not being too concerned but I can never bring myself to let Mishka sleep on my bed or couch. She has her own couch and pillow which can easily be managed but to allow her fluffy butt next to me. Yeek.

My dogs sleep where they want to mostly, my Bull Mastiff can't be arsed jumping on the bed because she's lazy, but my bulldog (the one in my avatar) will snuggle every night, or come wake us up in the morning if he hasn't gotten down and snuggled with us during the night. They hog the sofa. We don't have a sofa for us really, it's mostly theirs hahahahaha!

Can you fit in a second sofa? It was the best thing we did. :)
The problem is when we have guests we change the sheet and then try to keep Mishka from hassling them sitting on it. It's her couch and she wants it kept that way.:p

We could, but we're not really bothered. Plus, we're moving house soon, so it's not going to be an issue. We both have to work at our computers a lot, so we spend a lot of time sitting on our desk chairs, and if we had a second sofa, guess what? They'd end up using that one too LOL

I never minded it at all, if anything I miss our dogs sleeping in the bed. Especially when I wasn't feeling well or angry about something, our oldest dog would always sense it and lay by me the whole time.

I've read numerous reports and magazine articles that it's unhealthy for humans. Apparently, they carry a lot of dirt and germs on their feet. Think about how they roll in grass when they go outside. However, my parents always let our dogs sleep with them and nothing ever came out of it. I guess it's just preference.

I have a strict rule. No dogs on the bed or couches. If I want to hold my dogs it's usually in my office chair because that is where I spend most of my time working and watching tv each day. The dogs have fleas and ticks sometimes when you can't see them. They walk around outside in other dog and cats urine and feces. Soooo.....

Well, to be honest I have never shared a bed with any of my dogs. The closest we have come to allowing dogs to sleep in our home was when Rocky would sleep on the living room floor while Buddy slept in one of the easy chairs. Since we now have Oso and Buddy the second they sleep primarily outside, mainly because Buddy the second can be a bit hard to settle down. They have a nice dog house that my brother made for them with a carpet and blankets inside, so we have tried to make them as comfortable as possible.

All of my dogs have, at one time or another, slept in the bed with me. Dumbledore did it when he was a puppy, Dobby did it up until he tore his ACL and Doris hasn't done it in years, but she did when we first adopted her. Bandit is the only pup of mine that still sleeps in the bed with me, and I find it strange that so many people find that weird! I've got a queen bed, and I share it with my girlfriend, both of our cats and Bandit. Yes, it can get quite cramped, but I don't know if going to bed would feel like home, any other way.

People seem to think you are a very unclean person if you sleep with animals. The reality is, usually people that sleep with their pets are cleaner than the average person. You have to change the bedding more often. The house gets cleaned more often. The animals get cleaned more often. Even the owners get cleaned more often.

    I think you're right, Rose.

Although on the flip side, I know people who don't clean nearly enough when they have pets because they just get sick of all the hair....so they don't bother to clean it quite as often. And they don't change their bedding as often because it's "just going to get hairy immediately again," bleh.

I always have to sleep with my dog in my bed. She curls up under the covers with me so i can keep her warm at night. She is my best friend.

Amanda, your dog is small or big? I know my Homer would like to sleep in my bed but I never let him do this. I'm too afraid I could hurt him unintentionally when I'm asleep, he is so little:(
