What does it mean when a dog eats grass?? Does anybody know why they do it??? My dad used to say most dogs do this because that's what they eat when they're not feeling well. Grass is supposed to help them with stomach issues. I'm not sure if that's true at all, because my dad is known for making info up, lol.

Does anybody know the real reason behind this odd behaviour??

I heard that it helps them with stomach issues too. Sometimes I think that Homer eats grass only because he likes the taste of it though:eek: . He eats it almost everytime when he is in our garden, which means quite often. I tried to teach him not to do it, but he is very stubborn:rolleyes:

Awww! Your homer sounds like a really adorable terrier! Don't worry, at least we know grass can't harm them, but I really can't understand why they like to eat grass so much. Specially when they eat it just for the sake of eating it. We gotta admit some dogs can be kinda quirky :p

I also think or know that dogs eat grass as well as the cat to help them deal with their stomach issues. It is their way to treat themselves. :D

Haha, Homer definitely is quirky:p . He not only eats grass, but also wood and basically everything that can be chewed and swallowed. I have to be very careful, I can't leave anything on the floor, because I know that he would find it immediately and who knows what would he do:eek:
When you have a dog, you can never be bored.

Ow, that sounds a bit dangerous. Have you ever had a really bad scare with homer? Because my aunt's dog used to do the same, and she had to be so careful not to let anything small enough for her dog to chew or swallow at his reach. Once something happened... he swallowed something he really shouldn't and they had to rush him to the vet :( He almost dies, but they saved him :)

I'm so glad that they saved him! It must have been terrifying, poor thing:( Dogs really are like small children:(
My Homer once ate a few beads that my skirt was decorated with. Fortunately, they were relatively small, so nothing happened to him. My skirt isn't as pretty as it was before though;)

Thanks :) It was a miracle they did, actually! As for your homer, I think he's been a really lucky little dog :) but don't you ever feel nervious he might end up eating something he shouldn't be eating? I know I would if my dogs had that tendency, fortunately they're too picky or else I'd not be able to leave anything on sight (anything small enough to fit into their snouts).

Sure, I'm scared that he may eat something that he shouldn't, but I learned to be very careful and I do my best not to leave anything dangerous on the floor or on tables (he is very agile and he would get there if he wanted to:eek: ).
Once, when he was a puppy, he drank some coffee from my aunt's cup when she left her room for a few minutes:eek:

There are breeds that tend to eat anything even garbage so it is really important not to leave anything not to be eaten on the floor or within the dog's reach. :p

I'm not sure if it has anything to do with dog's breed:p One of Homer's friends, a Yorkie as well, who is called Gucio, is extremely picky. He has his favorite food and he refuses to eat anything else. So it's a proof that some Yorkies eat everything, some don't:p
Gucio for sure wouldn't eat any beads from my skirt;)

LOL, I'm sorry, but the image of Homer drinking your aunt's coffee is really funny! My sister used to have a duck, she'd get it inside, but my grandma didn't like it. This duck really liked to drink coffee, lol! This kinda reminds me of the beer drinking chicken:

Some animals will eat and drink anything ;):D:p

Yeah, I agree wuith you! But I've noticed this tendency among my mutts, but most of my pure breed dogs are extremely picky. I don't know if this has been just a coincidence or if it had anything to do with the breed or lack of it.

Haha, the coffee loving duck sounds hilarious!:D
I wonder why my Homer loves coffee so much. Of course I don't give him any, because I don't think that it would be healthy for him, but a few days ago I accidentally spilled some of my coffee on the carpet in our livingroom and Homer immediatly started licking it like it was the most delicious thing in the whole world:eek:

Aw, what an adorable picture :) !! That homer sounds like such character, I think your homer likes coffee because of its sweet flavour. My dogs love everything that is sweet and tastes good, but in general they love sweet things ;)

The weirdest thing is that my coffee is never very sweet, usually I add less that one teaspoon of sugar to it. So I really don't understand why does he find it so delicious. Maybe he likes the milk? I don't know, it's just weird. I think that Homer simply wants everything that people around him drink or eat, haha:p

Yeah! Probably the milk :D or maybe it's as you said, he sees you drinking it and thinks:''Mmmmm!! Claudine is eating/drinking that! It must be delicious then! I must have a bite!''. Then he goes for it :D My dogs are so hard to convince, when I want to give them something (I know how picky they are) I make mmmmmmm!!! this is tasty sounds, lol. Sometimes they believe it, but they need to see me actually chewing what I'm trying to give then :p I can't fool them that easily!

Whenever I make the "mmmmmmm!" sound, Homer starts barking. It's very annoying for him to watch me eating something delicious. He wants to get all the food, especially if it's my food, lol:p
I hope that you don't have to chew dog's food to encourage them to eat it:p

LOL, no, I'm fortunate they actually like to eat their dog food  The pug is a bit less picky than the schanuzer, the schanuzer needs to smell everything before eating it. Kinda silly because I've given her things she'd surely love to eat, but she has avoided them just because she didn't quite like the smell, what a silly girl :D

To be honest, I'm pretty sure that I've never met a dog that doesn't like dog food. I've never met one that doesn't eat meat either.
Homer seems to like the nastiest smells. I can't tell you how happy he was when he found a piece of old cheese in a park near our house:eek: Fortunately, I managed to take it away from him.
