I have always wanted to give my dog a human name but my spouse was so against it. He is all for allowing the dog to be a dog, and not attempt to transform it into something that it is not. I have always wanted to name my dog Anastasia but apparently it's too humanly. So, I settled for the name "Pinky". Did you any of you give your dog a human name? If so, what is it?

I remember I do have a dog before named Bianca. It is a human name and I got that name from my favorite cartoon character during my grade school years.

Of course it's okay! It might be confusing if you bring up the dog in conversation and people don't know what your dog is named, but that's easily fixed and no harm done. I know several people whose dogs are named Maggie, and my stepdad's dog is named Brooke. Whatever name you think fits your dog will work out fine!

It's definitely okay. I don't see anything wrong with it at all. I think that's the case with all animals and not just dogs, too. What's wrong with using a normal name?

I've had a few dogs over the years. Half had non Human names. Nip, Oakie, Arrow, little Tacca.
Human names. Seamus, Pia Zardov, Mishka.
NB. Nip and Seamus was the same dog.
What's in a name if you love your dog.:)

Dogs that have human names... LOL. Rin, Ginger, Peanuts (if that counts), PJ (short for Panda Jr.).

I love giving my dogs cute names... Chooey, Buchi, Whitey, China.

And there were others who were given special names that's part of their history... Cheezy (because we were addicted to this junkfood once), Domex (because she accidentally drank water with bleach called Domex), Puppy (because my niece thought it was cute to name a dog Puppy), Uling (because he is black and that's our dialect's word for Coal)

I think it's perfectly fine to give a dog a human name, I have nothing against it, I think it's cute. My Homer has a human name... I mean, I'm not sure if anyone is currently using it but for sure - as you all probably know - there was a Greek poet in the past who was named like this:D

I have no problem with giving my dogs human names. I cannot understand why anyone would object to that. A dog, after all, is very much part of the family. So giving it a human name is quite a natural thing to do. Of course, I don't see any problems with calling dogs somewhat non-human names either. A name is a name is a name. So long as the dog knows and the owner knows, that's all that matters.

Yep, it's not very popular at all these days:

It looks like it was fairly popular in the US in the late 1800s and early 1900s. It's pretty much nonexistent as a name in the US now, though. Maybe it's still more popular in other countries?

I'm pretty sure no one was ever named Homer in Poland - well, at least not a human;) . It's a foreign name so it would probably be against the law.
Lol, I haven't watched Simpsons, is Homer Simpson a nice character?:p

    This is Homer:

I'm willing to bet that your dog doesn't look anything like him, hehe.

He might act like him, though...with the confusion and heart of gold. ;)

He loves when I stroke his tummy or his head...usually. Sometimes he lies like this, looking like he wanted to be petted, but he bites when you try:eek:
Oh, and paws are restricted area, no one is allowed to touch them:p

I like human names way more then I like actual animal names for animals. I named my on dog Toby because of a friends husbands name that I liked, and I named my other dog jax from a character off of sons of anarchy. If i get another one, I want to name him johnathan, the most human name i can give him, I find it hilarious. I couldnt name them anything to animalish theyre like my little humans since i dont have actual kids

I hope he misses me... but I'm not sure to be honest:p He always jumps from happiness when he sees that I'm going somewhere - but it's because I always give him a big treat before leaving.
