Panzer, a 6-year-old Lab mix, has made history by being the first dog ever to be awarded a restraining order. It should be noted that the dog was granted a restraining order along with his owner, a 38-year-old mother, and her son. The boyfriend of Panzer’s owner, allegedly violent, can no longer see the dog or the family. While it may not seem like a big deal, it is.

According to animal protection agencies, some 70 percent of abused women report that their batterers threatened to kill their pets. Making matters worse is that 50 percent of victims delay leaving abusive homes out of fear that their animals might be harmed.

So this is big news that charges could be pressed for messing with a dog as well. It won't completely prevent anything from happening, but it's a start, right?

This is great news:) . The law should protect dogs too - especially if their life is in danger. I really don't understand how anybody can kill a dog - or beat a woman. It's so awful:mad:. I hope that Panzer and his owner are safe now.

I think this is important. Recently, there was a news of a husband who slit their dog's throat because he was devastated of their divorce. No pet deserves such brutality especially if it hasn't done anything to you.

I think including the dog in the restraining order is a good thing.

This is great. There should have been protection like this for pets before. I hope this keeps up in the future so that someone who's a threat to an animal and a person's safety isn't able to get custody of the animals, just like they can't get custody to any dependents in the family.

I am in full favor of laws like that. Now if only we can have a law outlawing 'putting dogs to sleep'. It's something really dreadful. Imagine a good friend and constant companion in his old age. Would you put him to sleep just because he has grown old?
