A friend of mine shared this on my Facebook wall to remind us of both four legged and two legged heroes of 9/11.

Thousands have lost their loved ones during such time but thousands were also saved by these amazing dogs and people.

I salute them. And all those who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. Now I wonder what has happened to all those dogs. Are they all forgotten already?

Dogs are helping us in so many different situations! I hope that all of these dogs are all right now. I've heard than many people who worked there in the ruins are ill now, so it might be the same with the dogs.

    Aww, that's really awesome.

What is going on in the first picture? I can see that they're moving him from one side to another, but is it so he can search on the other side then? I wonder how many canine lives were lost.

How did I miss this a week ago. What a lovely tribute to dogs, and their contribution to the rescue efforts of 9/11. I knew at the time that rescue dogs were used, in the effort to find survivors. I also remember the story of a few dogs on the day of the attacks. The blind business man whose guide dog helped him get to safety, and the dog who worked for port authority who tragically died in the attacks. I also wonder about the dogs who lost their loved ones in the attacks though, did they find new homes, I sure hope so.
