My neighbours have a new dog, he is a Yorkshire Terrier like my Homer and his name is...Dracula! I laugh every time when I hear them calling him. When I'm in my garden I often hear: 'Dracula, come here' or even 'Dracula, don't bite me!'. It's very funny:D . What is the funniest dog name you ever heard?:p

That is funny, obviously your neighbors are horror fans, LOL. This does get me to wonder why we name our dogs what we name them (I might create a whole topic on this subject). Anyway in keeping with the question one of the dogs we acquired over the years, actually belonged to a family in our neighborhood first. He was rescued by my brother when he was almost hit by a car, since he had no tags we had no choice but to keep him for a while, because my brother was calling him Buddy that sort of became his name with us. Only for the family to come to claim him and find out that his real name or the name they had given him was Demon. Yep, the dogs name was Demon, eventually the family realized the dog was attached to us, especially my brother and let him come to live with us permanently and his name was officially name Buddy. Which in my opinion was better then Demon.

My mom hates it when I named our dog "Uling". The English translation of it sounds a lot cooler which is "Coal" but my mom used to be very bothered when I would start calling him by his name in our dialect which is "Uling". She even tried to convince me to pick another name but I didn't budge.:p

My partner decided he wanted to name our dog "Batman" so that was hilarious when he would ask Batman to run. "Run, Batman! Run!"

These names are hilarious!:D Thank you for sharing:D My friend has a dog named Clay and it is quite funny itself but if you pronounce it, in our language it sounds exactly like the world that means 'glue':p

I guess it would be kind of mean to name a dog "Sit". It would probably be completely confused... "come here! sit! come here! sit!"

I have a few names that made me take a second look. First there was Nip and when an Asian doctor came looking for directions at my rural property the dog followed him up the driveway and I called out Nip.That can be considered a derogatory name for Japanese. I soon changed that name. Then there was Tacca. I had a couple of police officers drop in looking for someone I knew to give a restraining order. When my dog Tacca followed her down the drive I yelled out Tacca Tacca. It sounds like attack her.
But the name I had thought would be a good one to deter people is Black Havoc. If you called out Black Havoc it sounds something to be wary of. I heard it used on a comedy TV show back in the 70's

I think I've told the story here before, but I'll mention it again.

We had one named "DumbF*ck." Yes, it's inappropriate and maybe offensive to some people, but that's what my parents named him. I called him "DF" as a kid and didn't really understand until later. He would wake us all up in the middle of the night, barking at rocks or his own shadow, though. I don't know if he had some mental issues or what, but he was a rather unintelligent dog. :p

That's quite a sad story that your folks named a dog that. I gather you gave "DF" the love and attention that a dog needs.

Oh absolutely. He was never mistreated. And my dad got up every other night, it seemed, to go calm him down and show him that it was just a rock or a shadow, etc. He was never treated in a bad way because of it at all. And it's not like he knew the name meant anything bad.

That's nice to hear. What did others think of the name? Say the vet for instance. When a stranger came to your home and DF followed them did you call out "DumbF***" :D

My parents did! Talk about awkward, right?

I have no idea about the vet. Maybe they put down DF instead of the full name? He wouldn't really respond to the initials, though, because he'd been trained mostly with the whole name, so I'm not sure how that would work either.

Today in the park we met Whistle, a very cute little maltese. I've also heard about a Yorkshire Terrier named Rubens - after this famous painter:p
