What's the longest your dog has ever slept in one stretch?

    I was watching my dog sleep for what seemed like forever — what's the record in your household? My 4-year-old Border Collie slept 14 hours straight after a long hike and woke up perfectly fine. Is this normal after heavy exercise? What's the longest your dog has slept?

    That is completely normal! Dogs recover through sleep just like humans do, especially after intense physical activity. Border Collies are high energy breeds so a long hike essentially drains their battery completely. 14 hours straight is impressive but not unusual after heavy exercise.

    My record at home was 16 hours with my Labrador after a full day at the beach. Woke up hungry and ready to go again!

    I’m not really sure what the longest my dog has slept is, but after a really active day I’ve definitely seen some very long naps.
